Bridge layout begins with establishing control points that are used to maintain horizontal and vertical alignment. This usually happens during the preliminary site survey and those points are used on each subsequent survey to follow. Our surveyors work with contractors to establish and stake the baseline / survey line(s) and positions for all elements of the bridge substructure.
Locating infrastructure for the construction of bridges and overpasses requires a high degree of precision and accuracy. Challenger is experienced in providing construction layout services to our clients to ensure structures, abutments, piles, piers and other elements are done in accordance with architectural and engineering plans and on-site grades are controlled. Variances in either horizontal or vertical positions can lead to costly delays.
Challenger has provided precision layout for numerous highway projects including:
- Inuvuk-Tuktoyaktuk Highway
- Alaska Highway – Bridge Replacements over the Duke River, Donjek River, and Smith River
- Stoney Trail Highway in Calgary
