Challenger and Sub-Arctic Geomatics are pleased to announce that Gary Borne, BCLS, has joined the team as General Manager of our Yellowknife location. Going forward, long-time General Manager Bruce Hewlko will move into a supporting role, mentoring Gary and continuing to provide his leadership and local knowledge before his retirement.
Gary joins us from Kelowna, BC and has over 20 years of survey experience, including the last 12 in a management role. He is well-versed in all aspects of land surveying, including fieldwork, data processing, drafting, and project management.
His extensive background in field operations will be an asset for managing Sub-Arctic crews deployed across the Northwest Territories and Nunavut.
Gary has been involved in cadastral, construction, topographic, and high precision monitoring surveys. He was also responsible for performing high-density laser scans on projects in Kelowna, and will continue to deploy the latest technology and provide innovative solutions for our northern clients.
Our new General Manager also has a long track record of engaging and building relationships with clients and Indigenous partners and looks forward to doing the same in his new role.
Gary understands the unique challenges of servicing the Northwest Territories. In addition to his work on projects in Washington State, Arizona and Japan, his project work includes the Inuvik-Tuktoyaktuk Highway (ITH) Construction Survey where he processed GPS field data for the topographic portion of the project.
Since its inception in 1992, Bruce Hewlko has developed Sub-Arctic into a strong team dedicated to precision accuracy and superior service for surveys throughout the Northwest Territories and Nunavut. With Bruce’s support, we look forward to Gary continuing to build on Challenger and Sub-Arctic’s reputation as the surveyor of choice for geomatics services across Canada’s north.
