With the retirement of Tony Brown, we are pleased to announce that Ed Salmon, ALS, P.Eng, has rejoined the Challenger Geomatics team as Branch Manager of our Fort McMurray location.
Ed Salmon previously held the same role at Challenger between 2009 and 2012 and for the past seven years was operating Edward Salmon Surveys. In his over 24 years of survey experience, Ed has held various management roles and has deep roots in Fort McMurray.
On his first tour with Challenger, Ed led numerous municipal and commercial projects in the Wood Buffalo Region. Providing legal and construction surveys for subdivisions, condos, and apartments as well as survey support for road construction including quantity surveys and topographic surveys. Now that he is back, he will once again provide his expertise on all aspects of land surveying, including fieldwork, data processing, drafting, project management, and photogrammetry.
Ed Salmon is also experienced in the survey applications and use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV’s), also known as drones.
His knowledge of the community and extensive background in field operations will be an asset for managing our Fort McMurray crews and those deployed on job sites in the Wood Buffalo region.
In addition to his survey work, Ed Salmon was also the Land Manager for the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo between 2004 and 2008. In this role, he was able to shape the rapidly growing area and was the regulator for new subdivision developments in the region. He was also responsible for land sale and purchases as well as leases of Municipal Lands.
Through his long career, both with Challenger and with his own company, Ed Salmon has provided superior customer service to his municipal and industrial clients on projects such as topographic surveys, volume surveys, high precision monitoring, cadastral surveys, and new build construction (both commercial and residential).
In addition to his work on projects in and around Fort McMurray, his project work includes developments throughout the rural northeast of Alberta from Lac La Biche to the North West territory boundary.
With this return, he will continue to deploy the latest technology and provide innovative solutions for our northeast Alberta clients.
