Challenger currently operates both fixed-wing and quadcopter UAV variants to provide a wide array of remote sensing support for our clients, all backed by our highly experienced in-house photogrammetry department and certified by Licensed Professional Surveyors and Geomatics Engineers. Our UAV technology can deliver quick and inexpensive high-resolution aerial photographs, aerial triangulation and orthomosaic, Digital Surface Model (DSM) point clouds, Digital Elevation Model (DEM) contours, site reports, and volume calculations for our clients. It is also ideal for use in remote or difficult terrain, and for dynamic and rapidly changing sites.

A few of the many applications for this UAV technology include route scouting for roads, pipelines and powerlines, plant or mine site and infrastructure mapping, stockpile/mining volume calculations, 3D modeling and visualizations, topography surveys, and monitoring for construction. Our quadcopter can also perform remote inspections using its precisely controlled high-definition video collection capability.

With several years of UAV operating experience specifically for survey applications, Challenger’s UAV operations are supported by a blanket Special Flight Operations Certificate (SFOC) issued by Transport Canada for the Alberta, British Columbia and Northern Canada (Yukon, NWT and Nunavut) regions. This authorization enables us to rapidly deploy UAV technology to support our clients throughout these regions, and provides assurance to our clients that our UAV operations are always conducted safely in accordance with all applicable regulations and protocols.

Not only does our UAV provide direct cost savings for our clients by being able to capture data more efficiently, it is a safe, reliable, and precision-controlled data collection platform that can minimize the injury potential associated with boots-on-the-ground surveying or monitoring in difficult terrain or dangerous locations, such as where active mining operations are underway. This reduced likelihood of safety incidents in turn mitigates the potential for costs associated with safety incidents.
